FasTrac Construction Products partnered with MoDOT – St. Louis and Concrete Strategies LLC. to enhance Route Y in Franklin County, Missouri with a new bridge deck overlay. FasTrac’s Hybrid Polymer Concrete was selected for it’s ease of use, high strength, flexibility and chemical/weather residence, adding another 30+years of life to the bridge. About the Project
In collaboration with the Missouri Department of Transporation and Concrete Strategies, FasTrac Hybrid Polymer Concrete (HPC700) was used to to install a bridge deck overlay on Route Y in Franklin County, MO.
Hybrid Polymer Concrete is a unique material. It’s strong like concrete, yet remains flexible like asphalt. It will carry heavy loads while retaining a high degree of flexibility. It has excellent bond strength, will move with the material that it is bonded to, and is impermeable to deicing salts and other chemicals. We expect this bridge to have many more years of service, and for the overlay itself to last at least thirty years.
We also utilized our custom engineered and designed FasTrac Volumetric Mixer to produce the Hybrid Polymer Concrete. The Volumetric Mixer mixes the two-part resin system perfectly to ensure a consistent mix at all times. We also have a specially designed paving machine that can put Hybrid Polymer Concrete down from a half inch overlay up to twelve inches thick if necessary. This material allows for the addition of a friction aggregate that can be dispensed with ease by our custom aggregate spreader, which not only provides added safety, but a smooth ride for years to come.
FasTrac Hybrid Polymer
FasTrac CE700 HPC is a three-component hybrid polymer concrete system containing engineered polymer resins and specially selected aggregates. When properly mixed, the reacted chemistry produces a durable polymer concrete composite designed for bridge deck overlays, patching, and resurfacing applications. Specifically designed to resurface and restore prepared concrete surfaces from ½” to 12” in one application lift. The system can be utilized for variable depth cross sections. Return to traffic within 3 hours.
