One of our contractor customers provides repair and construction services for several railroads, and a recent project required a quality self consolidating concrete to ensure project success.
On a rural stretch of track near Blackburn, MO, a railroad bridge built in 1900 was showing its age. The bridge required a new concrete pad to support the heavy rail traffic. Due to the railroad’s frequent use, the crew only had a total of 5 hours to remove the old concrete, and replace it with new FasTrac 246 SCC.
FasTrac 246 SCC (Self Consolidating Concrete) was utilized for a number of reasons. It features numerous benefits. Its high flow characteristics helped facilitate the placement of the concrete into a tight space. It also assured proper consolidation while also providing rapid strength gain. It is resistant to freeze and thaw, and shrinkage compensation minimizes cracking.
In order to operate efficiently in the remote location, the contractor team utilized a lightweight FasTrac 750 skid steer concrete mixer to mix the 246 SCC, further demonstrating that the 750 mixer is the perfect tool for remote job sites.
Thanks to the team’s efforts and FasTrac products, the bridge was reopened to rail traffic just two hours after the placement of the concrete.
FasTrac 246 SCC
FasTrac 246 SSC Concrete is a self consolidating, one-component, shrinkage compensated, proprietary blend of cements, aggregates, and performance enhancing chemical additives. This rapid setting concrete is mixed with water on site, used for large- scale horizontal concrete repairs, and form and pour vertical applications that require high early-strength gain.
